As part of the Government’s Caring for Country initiative, applications for community action grants of between $5,000-$20,000 are now open, until 5pm 27 March 2012, AEDT.
The grants are designed to assist Indigenous community groups, amongst others, with projects or investment proposals which aim to protect and conserve the natural environment, or which relate to the sustainable land management sector.
Established local community based organisations which are currently already involved in the successful delivery of projects that protect and enhance aspects of the natural environment, or which support sustainable farming, are targeted by the Government as recipients of the grants. Emerging Indigenous organisations are also eligible to apply, but individuals are not.
Funded activities cover such things as holding field days to training in sustainable agriculture practices. A full list of the types of activities which the grants programme will fund are available on the Government’s Caring for Country webpage, http://www.nrm.gov.au/funding/cag/index.html. Application forms are also available on the website.
Applications close at 5pm on 27 March 2012, AEDT.
