Review of Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006

The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has released a discussion paper about the review of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. According to the Minister, "[a]fter almost five years of operation, it is now timely to evaluate the performance of the Act, whether it is meeting the stated objectives, and what can be done to improve it".

The review of the Act will coincide with a parliamentary inquiry into the establishment and effectiveness of Registered Aboriginal Parties under the Act.

The outcomes of the review will be provided to the inquiry in March 2012 and the inquiry will report to Victorian Parliament in September 2012.
