In two consent determinations earlier this month, the Federal Court recognised the non-exclusive native title of the Quandamooka People in relation to North Stradbroke Island, some other islands in Moreton Bay and in relation to nearby waters. The first Quandamooka native title claim to this area was lodged in January 1995.
The Quandamooka People also entered into two Indigenous Land Use Agreements as part of the settlement of their native title claim – one with the State of Queensland, and one with Redlands City Council. The native title determination will take effect upon the registration of the two ILUAs by the Native Title Registrar.
