Chalk & Fitzgerald - Lawyers & Consultants

Pro bono work

As a small firm our resources are limited but we take seriously our professional duty to serve the wider good of society by providing legal assistance to those who have no means to pay.

We tend to concentrate our pro bono work on matters within our core areas of expertise and where the case has importance to more than a single individual. Our expertise in administrative law is relevant to those who are having difficulties in dealing with government agencies and our background in advising on corporate and tax issues for not-for-profit entities is relevant to a range of charitable organisations. On the other hand we would normally not take on family law and criminal matters.

Generally we ask pro bono clients to make some contribution to the cost of their matters, especially in relation to out of pocket expenses. Where clients have no financial means, we may ask them to assist with the preparation of their matters to the extent of their capability. We may also ask what efforts a person has made to obtain assistance from other sources before agreeing to take on a matter.
